We think you’ll find that our services are priced much lower than many competitors. If you find lower costs, Jones may be able to match those rates.

All hourly services are billed in full hour increments.
Data Recovery Services and Rates
“Simple” Data Recovery
$100.00
Per logical category or grouping of files
Requires a $50 deposit to begin the attempt, remaining $50 only payable if recovery is successful. Deposit will be refunded – so no cost to you at all for trying – if Jones Forensics doesn’t have the software or hardware for your particular device.
Decryption
$25 to start, $10/day
$25 to start attempts, $10 for each additional day beyond the first. Client may specify how many days to try.
Odds of decryption success will be greatly increased by providing previous passwords commonly used.
* Examples of a single logical category or grouping of files: “all JPG pictures”, or “all Word documents”, or even “every file from the device”. Essentially, these are things that can be easily isolated to a single automated computer process without manually reviewing the content. For more information, visit the FAQ page.
Recovery of data from a failed RAID

All forensic imaging includes controlled delivery of the image to the client, and secure, encrypted, storage of a copy of the data for one month by Jones Forensics.
Continued storage beyond one month will incur a cost of $50 per month per device image.

Data Delivery Storage Costs
Jones Forensics may charge an additional nominal fee for the USB compatible storage devices which are delivered to the client and contain the data resulting from services.
Fees will be refunded if the storage device is returned to Jones Forensics, where it will be securely, forensically, wiped and re-used.

Chris Jones of Jones Forensics is a licensed Virginia Private Investigator (PI), however as of September 2025 the LLC is not a registered PI Business. Results of a forensic investigation may suggest further steps befitting work performed by a PI. Jones Forensics may be open to performing this work, however they may also refer you to a more specialized organization or individual. We are happy to discuss this as needed.
